Talkpod A36Plus dual-band radio

The Talkpod A36Plus is a dual-band analogue FM transceiver covering GMRS, FRS and amateur bands with 512 programmable channels split across two 256-channel banks. It transmits on VHF and UHF at selectable 5 W, 2 W or 0.5 W output and receives across seven bands including AM airband and broadcast FM. The unit is FCC Part 95E certified for GMRS use and rated IP54 for water jets.

Installing the radio and common issues

Charge the supplied 3200 mAh Li-ion pack via the Type-C connector before first use; a full charge typically supports 12 hours of mixed operation. Mount the removable high-gain antenna, select VFO or memory mode and programme CTCSS or DCS codes from the front keypad to match your group. Users often forget that transmit is locked to amateur frequencies only, so GMRS channels will not key up without the correct licence and programming.

Check your setup before ordering

Verify that your intended frequencies fall within the declared Tx ranges of 462/467 MHz and the Rx spans of 136–180, 230–250, 350–400 and 400–512 MHz. Confirm you hold a valid amateur licence for any transmit use outside the licence-free FRS allocation. Ensure your accessories use a standard Kenwood-style two-pin connector if you plan to add a speaker-mic or headset.
