Scope purpose and users

The Swarovski Optik STR 80 is a straight-body spotting scope built for hunters, target shooters and wildlife observers who need high magnification and a built-in MOA reticle for ranging. Its 20-60x zoom range lets users scan broad areas at low power and resolve fine detail at distance. The scope is nitrogen-purged and sealed to remain fogproof and waterproof to 13 feet.

Optical interface limits

The 80 mm objective gathers ample light for bright images in fading conditions, while fluoride-containing HD lenses suppress colour fringing across the zoom range. Eye relief is fixed at 17 mm, so spectacle wearers may see some vignetting at higher magnifications. Close focus stops at 19 feet, limiting detailed observation of very near subjects. The reticle can be illuminated or switched off for an uncluttered view.

Capacity and headroom

At 20x the wide field suits landscape scanning and general birdwatching; at 60x the narrow field resolves bullet holes or plumage detail at long range. The 460 mm focal length supports digiscoping with compatible adapters, though image scale changes with zoom setting. The 13-foot depth rating handles heavy rain and accidental immersion, but the scope is not designed for prolonged underwater use.
