Star Micronics TSP700II direct thermal receipt

The Star Micronics TSP700II is a new desktop direct thermal receipt printer built for high-volume retail, grocery, healthcare and hospitality counters. It prints at 250 mm/s with a maximum resolution of 203 dpi and supports barcode formats including MaxiCode, PDF417 and QR code. A USB interface provides connectivity to Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, XP and Server 2008 systems as well as Mac OS X CUPS environments.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The gray chassis uses an extended top cover that reaches the printer edge to limit dust and liquid ingress, while internal channels dampen sound and vibration for quieter operation in busy settings. An auto-cutter handles continuous rolls, and the package includes a wall-mount kit, interface cover, paper guide for 58.00 mm media and a power-switch cover. Paper widths supported are 80.00 mm standard with optional 82.50 mm or 58.00 mm using the guide, and thickness range is 0.06 to 0.15 mm.

Upgrade path and when it matters

The TSP700II delivers 50 percent higher speed, 50 percent longer print-head life and 100 percent longer auto-cutter life compared with the earlier TSP700 model. A double-resolution mode raises graphic sharpness to 406 x 203 dpi for logos and coupons. Sites still running slower single-station thermal printers or models without the enhanced cover and dampening will see the clearest benefit, while operations needing Ethernet, Bluetooth or WebPRNT connectivity should look elsewhere.
