M18 cylindrical thread sensor

The Sick IMF18-08BPOVC0S is a flush-mount inductive proximity sensor with an M18 x 1 thread and an 18 mm housing diameter. It provides a PNP normally-closed output on a 4-pin M12 male connector for direct integration into 10 to 30 V DC control circuits. The stainless-steel V4A body and PPS sensing face meet IP68 and IP69K enclosure ratings for harsh wash-down environments.

Replaces older M18 sensors

This unit delivers a 1,500 Hz switching frequency and a 50 ms power-up delay, improving cycle-time precision on fast conveyors or indexing tables. The jump is worthwhile when the existing sensor cannot resolve rapid part detection or when hysteresis below 20 % is required for repeatable positioning. It also upgrades from housings that lack IP69K resistance to high-pressure cleaning.

8 mm sensing range with 6.48 mm safe operating

The sensor reliably detects ferrous targets within 8 mm while the guaranteed safe range extends to 6.48 mm, giving a margin for vibration or coating buildup. Continuous load current is capped at 200 mA with short-circuit, reverse-polarity and power-up pulse protection. Operating temperature spans –40 °C to +80 °C, beyond which thermal drift exceeds the specified ±10 % limit.
