It is not suited for high-volume production threading or for pipe sizes outside the stated range.

Manual operation limits for NPT threading

Threading relies entirely on operator force applied through the ratchet mechanism, so speed and consistency vary with user strength and technique. The steel dies cut National Pipe Taper threads only; other thread standards require different tooling. Die wear will gradually affect thread quality on harder materials. The tool cannot thread pipe larger than 2 in or smaller than 1/2 in.

Installation and common issues

The die heads and locking retainer assemble onto the offset lever without special tools. Select the correct die size, secure it in the head, and engage the ratchet on the pipe end. Misaligned starts often produce tapered or crossed threads that leak. Using the wrong die size or insufficient lubrication accelerates die wear and makes ratcheting difficult. Damaged dies cannot be sharpened economically.
