The jump is worth it when you need 200° focus throw for repeatable pulls, 114mm non-rotating front diameter for matte-box compatibility, and 40° iris rotation calibrated in T-stops. Standard autofocus lenses cannot match this mechanical precision.

Limits of Full-Frame T2.2 Optics

The fast T2.2 aperture enables shallow depth of field and strong low-light capability, but diffraction increases as the iris closes beyond the optimal range. Internal focus minimizes breathing yet cannot eliminate it entirely at close distances. The fixed 135mm focal length demands physical repositioning for framing changes, and the 11-blade diaphragm shape is most circular near wide-open settings.
