Kit Contents and Target Users

The RODE VideoMicro Vlogger Kit bundles a directional on-camera microphone, a MicroLED light, a SmartGrip phone clamp and a compact Tripod 2 into one package for mobile creators. It connects via a 3.5 mm headphone socket, so it is built for phones that still provide that analogue audio input. The all-metal mount adjusts to hold devices between 65 and 85 mm wide, covering most current handsets.

Audio and Lighting Performance

The VideoMicro uses a cardioid pickup pattern to focus on sound in front of the camera while reducing background noise, and it draws plug-in power from the phone so no battery is required for the microphone. The MicroLED light runs for over four hours on a single charge, giving consistent fill for extended recording sessions. A Rycote Lyre shock mount and WS9 furry windshield are included to handle wind and handling noise when filming outdoors.

Setup Experience and Common Issues

The SmartGrip clamps onto the phone with rubberised grips and slots onto the Tripod 2, which can be used as a handheld grip or folded out as a mini tripod; a gimbal head on the tripod allows precise angle adjustment. The DCS-1 dual cold shoe mount attaches to the grip and holds both the microphone and the light simultaneously. The only compatibility constraint is the 3.5 mm connection — phones without that socket cannot use the kit without an adaptor, which is not supplied.
