Each sensor detects when a door or window opens and sends an instant mobile alert through the Ring app. The system requires a Ring Alarm Base Station and a Ring Protect subscription, both sold separately, to enable digital notifications and in-app features.

Battery-powered coverage with subscription limits

The kit includes seven CR2032 batteries to power the sensors, so there is no wiring or external power supply needed. Alerts and digital arming only function while an active Ring Protect plan is maintained; without it the sensors cannot send notifications or integrate with other Ring, Echo, Alexa or third-party devices. Buyers who want local-only alerts or storage without a recurring fee will not be served by this ecosystem.

Tool-free mounting on frames

Each sensor is smaller than the previous version, allowing placement on a wider range of door and window frames. Installation uses adhesive strips or screws, both included, and requires no tools. The sensors are configured to operate only within the continental United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, so international installations are not supported.
