Compact Roof-Prism Binoculars

The Pentax UD 9x21 is a lightweight roof-prism binocular designed for astronomy, bird watching, hiking, stargazing, travel and sport. Weighing 195 g (6.87 oz), it is the lightest model in the Pentax range and features a closed-bridge, compact take-anywhere design with a stylish two-tone pink finish. Independent left and right diopter adjustment accommodates differing prescriptions. The large focusing ring and diopter ring both use a non-slip design for easy operation.

9× Magnification with 21 mm Objectives

The 9× magnification makes an object at 90 m appear the same size as one viewed at 10 m, while the 21 mm objective lenses keep the body small and light. Fully multi-coated optics and anti-reflection multi-coatings on the roof-prism light path deliver a bright, clear field of view suited to concerts, sports events and general travel. The 21 mm aperture limits low-light performance compared to larger objectives, so the binoculars are best used in daylight or well-lit conditions.

Optical Interface and Handling Limits

The roof-prism system and fully multi-coated surfaces maximise light transmission within the constraints of the 21 mm aperture. The closed-bridge configuration adds rigidity but fixes the interpupillary distance range to the built-in hinge. Diopter adjustment is manual on each eyepiece; there is no electronic stabilisation, range-finding or image-capture capability. The non-slip rings aid glove use, yet the compact chassis may feel small for users with large hands during extended viewing sessions.
