Compact workgroup scanner

The Ricoh fi-8040 is a duplex document scanner built for office workgroups that need fast, two-sided capture. It handles colour and black-and-white pages at 40 ppm or 80 ipm at 200 and 300 dpi. A 50-sheet automatic document feeder and manual feed mode cover daily batches and occasional delicate originals. The 4.3" touch display gives direct access to scan destinations without a PC.

Replacing slower single-feed units

Teams moving up from simplex or lower-volume scanners gain duplex speed and network flexibility in one step. The jump is worth it when daily volumes exceed what a 20-page feeder can sustain or when users need to send scans straight to email, network folders or FTP servers. USB 3.2 and LAN connections let the scanner sit where the paper originates, not just beside a workstation.

Limits of USB 3.2 and LAN scanning

Throughput tops out at the scanner’s rated 40 ppm regardless of interface bandwidth. Very large jobs may fill the 50-sheet feeder repeatedly, and the CIS sensor is tuned for standard office documents rather than photos or fragile media. Buyers who need higher daily duty cycles, larger hoppers or specialised media handling should evaluate heavier-duty production models.
