Buyers needing gigabit or 10-gigabit rates should select a different transceiver.

Fits standard SFP slots

The transceiver plugs directly into any SFP port that accepts 100Base-BX-D optics, freeing a copper port for endpoint devices. It requires a matching BX-U counterpart at the far end to complete the bidirectional link over one fibre strand. No external power supply or management cable is needed because the host switch provides power through the SFP cage. Installations lacking a compatible BX-U module cannot establish the link.

Replaces fixed copper uplinks

This module replaces a dedicated 10/100 copper uplink when distance exceeds twisted-pair limits or when electromagnetic immunity is required. The jump is worth it when the existing infrastructure already uses single-strand BX optics and the port budget cannot accommodate a full media converter chassis. Networks that have migrated to gigabit or higher backbone speeds will not benefit from the 100 Mbps ceiling.
