The NVIDIA MMA4Z00-NS is a switch-side OSFP module that carries two 400 Gb/s lanes for a total of 800 Gbit/s throughput. It targets data-centre operators building InfiniBand NDR or 400GBase-SR8 optical networks. The unit uses 850 nm multi-mode fibre with MPO-12 connectors and is rated for 50 m or 164.04 ft link distance. Buyers who need single-port 400 Gb/s modules, longer-reach single-mode optics, or QSFP-DD form factors cannot use this part.

Sustained 800 Gbit/s Throughput

Each of the two ports runs at 400 Gb/s continuously under the 400GBase-SR8 specification, giving an aggregate 800 Gbit/s without burst-only ratings. The 850 nm multi-mode interface maintains signal integrity across the full 50 m reach when paired with OM3 or OM4 fibre. Thermal design matches standard OSFP switch cages, so sustained line-rate traffic does not trigger throttling in correctly ventilated chassis. Installations that exceed the 50 m limit or use incompatible fibre grades will see errors rather than graceful degradation.

Hot-Plug OSFP With MPO-12

The transceiver slides into any compliant OSFP cage and locks with the standard bail latch; no tools are required. Dual MPO-12 receptacles accept keyed multi-mode trunk cables, and the keying prevents cross-polarity mating mistakes. Common issues include inserting the module into a QSFP-DD cage, using single-mode MPO cables, or exceeding the 50 m distance, all of which prevent link-up. Clean the MPO end-faces before each insertion to avoid contamination-related loss.
