At 0.9 optical density the filter cuts light by three stops, which is enough for smoothing water, blurring clouds or opening the aperture one to two stops in midday sun. The front 62mm thread allows stacking with a second filter, though each extra layer increases the risk of corner darkening on ultra-wide focal lengths.

Replaces standard ND filters without IR control

Standard neutral-density filters often leak infrared light, creating a magenta cast during long exposures that is difficult to correct in post. This IRND8 blocks infrared across the frame, removing that colour shift at the source. The upgrade is worth it when you shoot exposures longer than a few seconds or use cameras with high infrared sensitivity, but unnecessary for short exposures where IR contamination stays below visible thresholds.
