This sweat fitting coupling joins 3-inch and 1-1/2-inch nominal copper tubes in plumbing and mechanical systems. Pressure and temperature limits of sweat copper

The coupling is rated for 254 psi at 200 degrees F and a maximum operating temperature of 400 degrees F. Sweat joints rely on capillary solder flow, so system pressure and temperature must stay within these limits to avoid joint failure. Exceeding the rated values can cause leaks or fitting distortion over time.

Soldering technique and common pitfalls

Clean both tube ends and fitting cups thoroughly before applying flux and solder. Uneven heating, insufficient flux or contaminated surfaces are the main causes of voids and leaks. Allow the joint to cool naturally; quenching a hot sweat joint can crack the solder fillet and compromise the seal.
