Fixed-mount laser scanner for 1D codes

The Motorola MS-954-I000R is a fixed-position laser scanner designed for industrial point-of-sale and production-line use. It reads all common 1D symbologies including UPC/EAN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Codabar and RSS. The compact 1.02" x 1.93" x 2.31" housing weighs 0.10 lb and survives repeated 30 in drops to concrete. Buyers needing 2D or QR code capture should choose a different engine.

RS-232 interface with 5 VDC power

The scanner communicates over a single RS-232 serial interface and draws 95 mA while scanning and 27 mA in standby from a 5 VDC ± 10% supply. No cable is included in the box, so a compatible RS-232 lead with the correct pin-out must be sourced separately. The 650 nm visible laser diode operates at 12 scans per second with fuzzy-logic decoding for damaged or low-contrast labels. Systems without a native serial port or 5 V rail cannot use this unit directly.

Simple mechanical mounting, cable wiring required

Two mounting holes accept standard M3 hardware for rigid installation on brackets or machine frames. Because the scanner ships without a cable, the installer must crimp or solder a DB-9 or custom connector to match the host pin-out, observing the 200 mV peak-to-peak noise limit on the Vcc line. Incorrect wiring is the most common cause of communication failures. Once powered and connected, the scanner begins decoding immediately with no driver installation.
