Medium-Strength Threadlocking Tape

Loctite 242 threadlocker tape in a 50 mL bottle provides a medium-strength anaerobic bond for threaded fasteners up to 3/4 inch diameter. The blue formulation works on brass, bronze, copper, iron, manganese, Monel, nickel and steel. It achieves a breakaway torque of 71 in-lb and develops handling strength in five minutes. Standards met include ASTM D-5363 and MIL-S-46163-A.

Replaces liquid threadlockers

This tape format eliminates drips and messy application while delivering the same medium-strength hold as liquid 242. The jump is worth it when you need consistent coverage on vertical or overhead threads, or when inventory control favours a measured 50 mL bottle over larger drums. It does not suit applications requiring high-strength permanent locking or instant fixture without cure time.

Fits maintenance, assembly and repair workflows

The anaerobic cure activates in the absence of air between metal threads, so no heat or UV equipment is needed. Compatible Loctite 7649 primer can accelerate cure on inactive metals or large gaps. Clean-up requires only solvent and a wire brush. The 1.69 fl oz bottle is portable for field kits and frees up bench space compared with bulk containers. Buyers who need high-temperature resistance beyond the medium-strength range or a product approved for potable water systems should look elsewhere.
