This Lenovo accessory kit adds an eight-bay 2.5-inch Anybay backplane to the ThinkSystem SR590 server platform. It is intended for system builders and IT teams expanding internal storage capacity on that specific chassis. The kit provides the mechanical and electrical interface required to populate all supported drive slots.

Upgrade from fewer bays

The backplane replaces a lower-density or empty drive cage, allowing the SR590 to accept up to eight 2.5-inch drives in a single kit. The jump is worth it when the current configuration leaves usable slots unpopulated and the workload demands more local storage devices without adding external enclosures.

Capacity and headroom

Eight bays give ample headroom for mixed SSD and HDD arrays, supporting RAID configurations that balance performance and redundancy. The limit is reached when all eight slots are filled; further expansion would require a different chassis or external storage attached through supported host adapters.
