SDI to HDMI converter for broadcast workflows

The Jansicotek SDI2HDMI accepts a single BNC input carrying SD-SDI, HD-SDI or 3G-SDI signals at 270 Mb/s, 1.485 Gbps or 2.97 Gbps. It automatically detects the incoming format and converts it for display on standard HDMI monitors. The unit also provides a loop-through SDI output so the original signal can continue to an SDI monitor or recorder. Power is supplied via a USB DC 5 V 1 A connection.

Practical limits of the SDI and HDMI interfaces

The converter handles SDI input resolutions from 480i/576i up to 1080p at 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 Hz, plus 720p at 30, 50 and 60 Hz and 1080i at 50 and 60 Hz. HDMI output matches the same set of formats and supports 10-bit deep colour at 30 or 36 bits per pixel. Embedded audio up to 8 channels at 24-bit/48 kHz is passed through both SDI and HDMI paths. Cascading multiple converters of this type is not recommended.

Single BNC input with dual HDMI and SDI outputs

The defining specification is the 1-in-2-out topology: one BNC SDI input feeds one HDMI port and one SDI loop-through BNC simultaneously. This makes the device suitable for operators who need to view an SDI source on an HDMI screen while keeping the SDI chain intact. It does not serve workflows that require multiple SDI inputs or HDMI-to-SDI conversion.
