The IFM Efector KI5208 is a capacitive cylindrical proximity sensor built for industrial detection tasks. Its 15 mm sensing range suits presence checks on non-metallic materials such as plastics, liquids or powders. The unshielded 30 mm barrel mounts in standard fittings and carries an IP65 rating for dust and water-jet resistance. A 2 m cable provides the electrical connection.

Upgrading from mechanical or inductive switches

This sensor replaces mechanical limit switches that wear out or inductive sensors that only detect metal. The capacitive principle detects a wider range of targets through container walls, so the jump is worth it when the application involves level sensing or non-metallic parts. Operating frequency of 40 Hz supports medium-speed automation cycles. The 10 to 36 V DC supply range fits common control-voltage rails.

The NPN output handles up to 250 mA load current with selectable normally-open or normally-closed mode. PBT housing and the -13 to 158 °F operating range cover typical factory environments.
