This 18 cubic inch galvanized switch box provides a single-gang enclosure for residential and light commercial wiring. The 600 model includes seven 1/2 inch knockouts for cable entry and built-in cable clamps compatible with steel and aluminum armored cable, MCI, MCI-A, and flexible conduit. Plaster ears allow installation in existing walls for old-work applications. Gangable design permits combining multiple boxes for multi-device configurations.

1/2 Inch Knockout and Cable Clamp Limits

The seven 1/2 inch knockouts restrict conduit and cable entries to that specific trade size, preventing direct connection of larger raceways without reducers. Integral clamps are rated only for the listed armored cable types and flexible conduit, excluding non-metallic sheathed cable or larger conductors. Fire-rated wall acceptance is limited to two-hour assemblies, so the box cannot be used where longer fire resistance ratings are required by code.

18.0 Cubic Inch Capacity Headroom

The 18.0 cubic inch volume accommodates a single switch or receptacle with associated conductors and clamps within NEC fill limits. Adding a second device requires ganging an additional box to increase total volume, as the single-gang capacity cannot legally contain two devices with wiring. Deep 3-1/2 inch depth helps manage conductor bending radius, but total conductor count remains constrained by the fixed 18 cubic inch rating.
