It installs in the module slots on either side of the chassis and operates as a field-replaceable unit. The part is sold new and carries RoHS environmental certification. VC cables are sold separately.

The module provides 128 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth for Virtual Chassis traffic between EX4550 units. It handles high-throughput data networking aggregation across the stack. Headroom depends on the number of interconnected switches and the traffic profile; the fixed 128 Gbps limit cannot be expanded on this module.
