Replacement kit for HID fixtures

The GE 87164 kit supplies a complete magnetic core-and-coil ballast assembly rated for 400 W high-pressure sodium lamps. It includes the core and coil, a matched capacitor and an ignitor, all with colour-coded leads for straightforward wiring. Contractors and facility managers use it to restore service in existing HID luminaires without sourcing individual components.

Magnetic operation and quad-voltage input

The magnetic design uses precision-wound aluminium coils that spread heat evenly across the core during normal operation. The ballast accepts four supply voltages — 120, 208, 240 and 277 V — so the same unit fits the most common North American branch circuits. Power draw follows the lamp and ballast factor; no active cooling is required.

Enclosed core-and-coil construction

The steel laminations and coil windings are housed in a compact enclosure that mounts inside standard fixture channels using the existing bolt pattern. Colour-coded leads reduce wiring errors during installation, and the included capacitor and ignitor are pre-rated for the 400 W lamp. Installers should verify the fixture label matches the kit’s voltage taps before energising.
