Industrial motor starter for 480V systems

The GE CR306B104 is a non-reversing magnetic motor starter rated for 480V AC three-phase power. It provides overload protection using a thermal mechanism and mounts on a standard DIN rail. The unit suits industrial control panels that require direct-on-line starting for motors up to 5 hp at 480V or 600V AC. It is not intended for applications needing forward-reverse operation or single-phase power above 2 hp.

Thermal overload protection and coil operation

Overload protection is handled by a thermal element that responds to sustained overcurrent conditions. The starter coil operates at 480V AC, matching the line voltage for simplified wiring. In normal use the device draws only the coil current and dissipates minimal heat through its contacts. No fan or active cooling is required, so acoustic output is negligible in a typical enclosure.

Sustained load behaviour at rated horsepower

Under continuous three-phase load at 480V AC the starter supports 5 hp without exceeding its thermal trip curve. At 240V or 208V AC the rating is 3 hp three-phase, while single-phase limits are 2 hp at 240V and 1 hp at 120V. The thermal overload will trip if current persists above the set point, protecting the motor windings from damage during prolonged overloads.
