Fujifilm MCEX-16 16 mm Extension Tube

The Fujifilm MCEX-16 is a 16 mm macro extension tube designed for Fujifilm X-series camera bodies. It mounts between compatible Fujinon X-Mount lenses and the camera to increase magnification for close-up photography. Electronic contacts maintain communication between lens and body, preserving autofocus and aperture control. It suits photographers adding macro capability without purchasing a dedicated macro lens.

Extension Tube Limits and Compatibility

The 16 mm length determines the added magnification and reduces the minimum focusing distance, but it also reduces light reaching the sensor and limits infinity focus. Electronic connections pass data automatically, yet autofocus performance may slow at very close working distances depending on the specific lens used. The tube is compatible only with listed Fujifilm X-series bodies including X-Pro1, X-T1, X-E2, X-E1, X-M1 and X-A1. It does not function with cameras or lenses outside the Fujifilm X-Mount system.

Upgrading from Close-Up Filters or Longer Tubes

This tube replaces screw-on close-up filters by providing higher optical quality and retaining electronic lens control. It offers less magnification than the longer MCEX-45 tube, making it better suited for subjects where a moderate working distance is still needed. The jump is worth it when a photographer needs greater magnification than filters allow but finds the 45 mm tube too restrictive for lighting or composition. It is not for users requiring life-size or greater reproduction ratios without stacking tubes.
