Quick-Release Payload Adapter

The Freefly Smart Dovetail Payload Adapter is a mechanical and electrical interface that mounts directly to a sensor or payload. It locks into the Smart Dovetail receiver found on Astro aircraft and other platforms using the Pixhawk Payload Bus standard. The adapter ships with a ZPDR-26V-S payload connector and two 13-conductor, 28 AWG ribbon cables for data and power. This accessory is built for operators who need a secure, repeatable connection between airframe and payload.

Replaces Custom Mounting Hardware

The adapter removes the need for bespoke brackets and loose wiring when integrating a payload with a compatible airframe. It is worth the switch when you fly an Astro or a vehicle equipped with the Smart Dovetail receiver and want a single, standardised latch for multiple sensors. The kit also works with the Astro Map, Astro Payload Connector, Pixhawk Payload Bus and Vibration Isolator with Smart Dovetail. It does not suit platforms that lack the matching receiver or that require hot-swap capability.

Pixhawk Payload Bus Interface Limits

The interface relies on the Pixhawk Payload Bus for electrical continuity through the supplied 13-conductor ribbon cables. The system is not hot-swap compatible; the aircraft must be powered off before attaching or detaching the adapter to avoid damage to the airframe or sensor. No provision is made for live insertion or removal under load. Buyers who need hot-swap payload changes or a different bus standard cannot use this adapter.
