What it does and who needs it

This Fervit USB-C bi-direction switch works as a two-to-one source selector or a one-to-two display splitter. Users can connect two laptops or desktops to a single monitor, or route one computer to either of two screens. Only one display is active at a time. The hub supports up to 8K at 30 Hz, 5K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, plus 10 Gbps data and 100 W power delivery. It suits professionals who share one high-resolution display between work and personal machines.

Thermals noise and power draw

The unit requires external 5 V power and ships with a USB-to-DC cable for that purpose. Up to 100 W of USB Power Delivery 3.0 can pass through to the connected host when the power adapter is attached. No fan is present, so operation is silent. Power draw beyond the 5 V input depends entirely on the attached devices and the negotiated PD contract.

What it replaces and when to upgrade

It replaces manual cable swapping or a basic single-port USB-C dock that cannot switch between two hosts. The jump is worthwhile when you regularly move between two computers and need full 8K 30 Hz or 4K 120 Hz video plus 10 Gbps data on the same screen.
