USB 3.1 Type-A extension cable

Installation notes

Plug the male end into the host port and connect the device to the female end; no drivers are required. The flat ribbon routes easily behind motherboards or along chassis edges, but sharp bends near the connectors can stress the FPC traces. Ensure the alloy shells seat fully to avoid intermittent contact. The short length limits strain relief, so avoid hanging heavy devices from the cable.

Practical limits

The 10 Gbps rating applies only when both host and device support USB 3.1 Gen 2 signalling; a USB 3.0 host will drop to 5 Gbps. Cable length is fixed at 13 cm, so it cannot bridge larger gaps or reach front-panel ports from rear I/O. The Type-A connectors prevent use with Type-C or micro-USB devices without separate adapters. Signal integrity may degrade if the flat ribbon is tightly folded or routed beside strong EMI sources.
