The Fervit USB 3.0 Type-C to NVME SATA IDE Docking Cable connects M.2 NVMe SSDs in 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes, 2.5-inch SATA drives, 3.5-inch SATA drives and 3.5-inch IDE drives to a USB-C or USB-A host port. Only one drive operates at a time; if M.2 and SATA or IDE are connected together the SATA interface takes priority. Drives do not support hot plugging. A separate 12V 3A power supply is required for 3.5-inch drives. The product is new.

Suits owners of mixed drive libraries

Technicians and hobbyists who need to read or clone legacy IDE disks, laptop SATA drives and modern M.2 NVMe modules from a single USB connection will find this adapter useful. It does not support M.2 PCIe AHCI SSDs, mSATA drives, PCIe add-in cards such as Wi-Fi or capture devices, or non-M.2 form factors. Buyers who want simultaneous multi-drive access or hot-swap capability should look elsewhere.

Capacity and throughput limits

M.2 NVMe drives run at up to 10 Gbps over USB-C Gen 2 while M.2 SATA and 2.5-inch SATA drives are limited to 5 Gbps. 3.5-inch SATA and IDE drives also reach 5 Gbps when the external 12V supply is connected. The adapter accepts M.2 lengths of 2242, 2260 and 2280; longer modules will not fit. There is no internal storage, so total capacity depends entirely on the drive installed.
