Vehicle EMP Protection

The Faraday Defense DEFCON Vehicle is an ultra-duty surge protection device built to shield a vehicle's electronic systems from electromagnetic pulse energy. It uses metal oxide varistor technology to divert up to 270000 amps of current away from sensitive components. The module is designed for automotive applications where electronic control units and communication systems are vulnerable to induced voltage spikes. It forms part of a comprehensive EMP auto protection system when paired with TRAP products and ferrites.

Installation and Integration

The device arrives in a weatherproof package with ring terminals for direct attachment to the vehicle's electrical system. Automotive-grade wiring and internal potting compound provide waterproofing for under-hood or chassis mounting. It requires no external power source, operating passively to clamp transient voltage before it reaches the ECU, navigation, or cellular modules. The compact form factor allows it to fit alongside existing fuse blocks or battery terminals without displacing other hardware.

Thermals and Power Draw

As a passive surge clamp the DEFCON Vehicle draws no operating current and generates no heat during normal driving conditions. It remains electrically inert until a transient event exceeds its clamping threshold, at which point it shunts energy to ground instantly. There are no fans, moving parts, or semiconductors that degrade with temperature cycling. The potting compound ensures thermal stability across the full automotive temperature range without derating.
