The FANTEC detector is a handheld personal security device designed for travellers and anyone concerned about covert surveillance in hotels, rental properties or meeting rooms. It combines wireless sweep frequency technology, magnetic field detection, infrared reflection and laser detection to locate hidden cameras, audio bugs and GPS trackers. Adjustable sensitivity across six levels lets the user tailor the scan to the environment.

Detection Range and Signal Behaviour

The unit scans RF signals from 1 MHz to 10 GHz, covering common wireless camera and tracker frequencies. In wireless detection mode the indicator LEDs brighten and an audible tone sounds as the source gets stronger, giving a rough proximity guide rather than a precise distance measurement. Night vision camera mode uses a green laser to reveal lens reflections, but it requires the area to be darkened for the reflection to be visible.

Pre-Use Environment Check

Before relying on the detector, verify that the space can be made dark enough for the night vision mode to work and that strong ambient RF sources such as routers or microwave ovens will not trigger constant alerts. The 10 week standby figure assumes the device is left idle; active scanning will reduce operating time. Users should also be comfortable interpreting LED brightness and audio cues without a numeric signal strength readout.
