10 Gbps SFP+ module for short-range links

This Enterasys Networks SFP+ transceiver delivers 10 Gbps over multi-mode fibre using an 850 nm wavelength. It fits a standard SFP+ slot and terminates with an LC duplex connector. The module supports 10GBase-SR links up to 980 ft. It is aimed at network engineers building 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections inside data-centre racks or campus LANs.

Hot-plug design with LC multi-mode interface

The plug-in form factor allows insertion or removal without powering down the switch or router. An LC multi-mode port matches common OM3 or OM4 patch cords used for short-reach runs. IEEE 802.3 compliance ensures interoperability with other 10GBase-SR equipment. The 850 nm optics keep insertion loss low across the rated 980 ft distance.

Replaces older 1 Gbps SFP uplinks when bandwidth

Upgrading from 1 Gbps links to this 10 Gbps module removes a bottleneck for server clusters, storage arrays or aggregation layers. The jump is justified when sustained throughput exceeds gigabit capacity and the fibre plant already supports multi-mode runs within 980 ft. It does not suit single-mode infrastructure or links that exceed the rated reach.
