The Emerson EDL-2870-BK is a compact all-in-one system that plays DVDs, CDs and MP3 discs while receiving free over-the-air HD channels through its built-in ATSC tuner. A seven-inch LCD screen lets you watch movies or live TV without a separate display. Bluetooth streaming adds wireless audio from a phone or tablet. Twin full-range speakers deliver 5W RMS output for personal listening.

Power flexibility and external connections

The unit runs from an AC 120V adapter, a DC 12V car cord or eight C batteries so it works at home, in a vehicle or away from mains power. A 3.5mm AUX input and a composite A/V output let you connect other sources or send video to a larger screen. A 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone input support private listening and karaoke use. USB and SD/SDHC slots accept flash drives and memory cards for direct media playback.

Sustained playback on battery or mains

When powered by the AC adapter or DC car cord the boombox maintains continuous operation for movies, TV or music sessions. On eight C batteries the speakers and screen draw enough current that extended use will require fresh cells or a rechargeable set. The LCD backlight and tuner remain active during long viewing periods without thermal throttling. Bluetooth audio streaming stays stable for the duration of a typical playlist.
