Network serial gateway for legacy equipment

The Digi One TS connects a single serial device to an Ethernet network using a standard RJ-45 port. It targets administrators who need remote access to console servers, industrial controllers or point-of-sale terminals without replacing existing hardware. The unit supports switch-selectable EIA-232, EIA-422 and EIA-485 interfaces for broad compatibility. Management is handled through SNMP, Telnet, SSH v2 and HTTP.

Serial throughput and session limits

The serial link operates at up to 230 Kbps, which suits terminal emulation, equipment monitoring and low-bandwidth data logging. Higher-speed bulk transfers or real-time streaming will saturate the port and introduce latency. Each device server handles one physical serial connection, so environments requiring multiple concurrent ports need additional units. Buffering helps absorb short bursts but cannot overcome the fixed line rate.

Ethernet interface and power constraints

The RJ-45 Ethernet connection provides the only network pathway; there is no wireless or secondary wired option. Power is drawn from a 100 V AC to 240 V AC supply, so a mains outlet or compatible UPS is required at the installation site. Link and Power LEDs give basic status indication, but detailed diagnostics rely on the supported network protocols. SSH v2 encrypts management traffic, while plain Telnet and Reverse Telnet remain available for legacy clients.
