This USB Type-C male to 3.5 mm female adapter lets you plug wired headphones or an auxiliary cable into smartphones and tablets that lack a built-in headphone socket. It works with devices such as the Essential PH-1, Huawei P20 and P20 Pro, LeEco Le Max 2, Motorola Z2 Force, Z Droid Force and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Mi Mix 2 and Mi 6. The adapter is not compatible with Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL or HTC U11. A USB-C female branch on the cable also provides a charging path while audio is playing.

CDLA USB 3.1 headroom and limits

The adapter uses a CDLA USB 3.1 Type-C interface to deliver digital audio to the 3.5 mm output. It handles stereo playback for music, calls and navigation prompts on supported handsets. The digital-to-analogue conversion is performed inside the dongle, so the phone only needs a USB-C port that supports audio output. On unsupported models the adapter will not produce sound even though the connector fits physically.

Practical limits of the USB-C audio interface

The cable requires the host device to implement USB-C digital audio output; phones that route analogue signals only through the 3.5 mm pins will not work. The USB-C female branch passes charging current but does not add data lanes or video alternate modes. Length and flexibility are set by the moulded cable assembly, so the adapter stays compact for pocket or car use. Buyers who need simultaneous high-power charging and audio on unsupported handsets cannot use this product.
