Ground Loop Noise Filter for Car Audio

This RCA ground loop isolation filter removes the whistle noise that appears when a car stereo picks up alternator hum or other ground-loop interference. It isolates the audio signal at line level so the music comes through clean without the distracting high-pitched tone. The unit handles two channels with standard RCA input and output connections. It is designed for anyone who hears that characteristic whine when the engine is running.

Upgrading From No Filter or Basic Cables

The jump is worth it as soon as a persistent whistle or hum appears that changes pitch with engine RPM and cannot be cured by rerouting cables alone. A simple shielded cable does not break the ground path between the head unit and the amplifier, so the noise remains. This filter inserts a galvanic isolation stage that stops the current flowing along the shield while passing the audio signal intact. Install it when the noise is confirmed to be a ground loop rather than a faulty component.

Fitting the Filter Into the Signal Chain

The device sits inline between the head unit RCA outputs and the amplifier RCA inputs, requiring no external power and adding negligible insertion loss. An optional source ground connection is provided for installations where the head unit chassis ground needs to be referenced separately. Because it is a passive two-channel block, it frees up the installer from chasing ground-point differences around the vehicle. It works with any line-level RCA source and amplifier combination.
