Hand-Forged Damascus Skinning Knife

The Damascus Depot skinning knife is a 13-inch fixed blade built for hunters and collectors who value traditional forging. Its 7-inch blade is hand forged from 1095 and 15N20 high- and low-carbon steels, folded into a 465-layer twist pattern. A gut hook and clip point profile support field dressing and detail work. The knife arrives new with a thick cow leather sheath that includes a belt loop.

Full Tang Construction and Edge Retention

A full tang runs the entire 5-inch handle length, creating a single-piece structure that resists flex under heavy skinning pressure. The blade is heat treated to 56 to 58 HRC, giving a hard edge that holds a keen cutting angle through extended use. The 5-millimetre spine thickness adds rigidity when separating joints or cutting through cartilage. Twist-pattern layering distributes stress evenly along the 5-inch cutting edge.

Natural Materials and Maintenance Needs

The handle uses engraved bull horn scales with brass and red fibre spacers, materials that absorb minimal moisture but can become slick when wet. Damascus steel contains high carbon and will rust if left damp or stored in the leather sheath without oil. The supplier advises wiping the blade dry after each use and applying a light coat of oil; WD-40 can remove surface rust if it appears. The robust sheath protects the edge but traps humidity, so the knife should be stored separately in humid conditions.
