Rugged 20-Port Managed Switch

The Cisco Catalyst IE3100 is a ruggedised Layer 3 switch with 20 Gigabit ports, 18 of which are 10/100/1000 copper and two are combo Gigabit interfaces. It runs the Network Essentials feature set and is built for DIN-rail mounting in industrial environments where extended temperature ranges and vibration resistance matter. The 8000-entry MAC table and 256 supported VLANs suit segmented factory or process networks.

Gigabit Interface Limits

All 20 ports operate at Gigabit Ethernet speeds with no multi-gigabit or 10G uplinks on this model. The two combo ports share bandwidth with the corresponding copper ports, so only one medium per pair can be active at a time. Layer 3 capacity is limited to 2000 indirect IPv4 routes and 128 STP instances, which constrains the size of routed topologies and spanning-tree domains.

Pre-Installation Checks

Verify that your control cabinet provides DIN-rail space matching the 4.3 in by 5.1 in footprint and can dissipate 36.70 W of switch power plus up to 240 W of PoE load if powered devices are attached. Confirm that the Network Essentials licence covers the required routing protocols such as static IP routing, IGMP v2/v3 and STP without needing an upgrade. Ensure existing management tools support SNMP v1/v2c/v3, NETCONF, RESTCONF or the other listed protocols for monitoring and configuration.
