Network Transceiver for Cisco Switches

The Cisco GLC-GE-100FX= is a hot-swappable SFP module that delivers 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet connectivity over multimode fiber. It plugs directly into Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports on Catalyst 3750, 3560 and 2970 series switches. This transceiver suits network teams extending legacy 100 Mbps links across existing MMF infrastructure.

Migration Path from Copper to Fiber

The module replaces copper uplinks or older fixed-optic ports by adding a single LC duplex fiber interface to an available SFP slot. The jump is worth it when distances exceed copper limits or when EMI immunity is required in industrial or campus environments. 100 Mbps Full-Duplex Headroom

The transceiver operates at a nominal 1300 nm wavelength with a 1270 nm to 1380 nm range, providing full-duplex 100 Mbps throughput over multimode fiber. It comfortably handles building-to-building backbone segments and campus distribution links within standard MMF reach. It runs out when bandwidth demand exceeds 100 Mbps or when single-mode fiber distance is required.
