Compact EF-mount prime for everyday shooting

The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is a slim pancake lens built for full-frame DSLRs and also works on APS-C bodies where it gives a 64mm equivalent view. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture keeps the barrel thin while still allowing handheld work in lower light and shallow depth of field for selective focus. An STM stepping motor provides quick and near-silent autofocus suited to both stills and video. One aspherical element and a Super Spectra coating reduce distortion, flare and ghosting.

Bundle adds protection and creative filters

A 52mm three-piece filter kit supplies UV, polarising and neutral density options for controlling reflections, glare and exposure without changing aperture. The included lens pouch protects the barrel during transport, while a cap keeper prevents the front cap from being lost. A cleaning kit lets you maintain front and rear glass surfaces in the field. These extras extend shooting time and reduce the need for separate accessory purchases.

EF mount limits use to Canon DSLR systems

The lens uses the Canon EF bayonet so it fits full-frame and APS-C DSLRs but not RF-mount mirrorless cameras without an adapter. The 40mm focal length is fixed, so framing changes require moving position rather than zooming. Autofocus relies on the camera body’s phase-detection system; live-view or video AF speed varies by model. The f/2.8 aperture is constant but does not open wider for very low light or extreme subject separation.
