Practical limits of the USB 3.0 interface

The cable delivers up to 4.8 Gbps bandwidth and 900 mA power when both ends connect to USB 3.0 compliant hardware. Type-A plugs remain backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports, though speed drops to 480 Mbps and power to 500 mA. Using a USB 2.0 cable on a USB 3.0 device will also restrict transfer to the slower rate. The ten-times throughput gain over USB 2.0 only applies with a full SuperSpeed link.
