This BONAEVER cable adds a DB9 female COM port to any computer with a USB 2.0 socket. It uses an FTDI FT232 chipset and a nine-wire pinout covering DCD, RXD, TXD, DTR, GND, DSR, RTS, CTS and RI. Driver support spans Windows 11, 10, 8, 7, Mac OS 8 and later, and Linux 2.4.0 and later. The three-foot length gives modest reach without excess slack.

Sustained communication through FTDI silicon

The FT232 processor handles continuous data streams without the drop-outs common in cheaper bridge chips. USB-powered operation removes the need for an external supply, so the link stays alive as long as the host port delivers current.
