The Black Box Corporation SM265A is a 2U rackmount switch module that provides A/B switching for RS-232/DB25 connections. It is built for network managers who need to redirect serial links between two paths in commercial racks. The module fits standard gang-switch chassis and supports both new installations and legacy serial equipment.

Sustained operation with latching relays

Proprietary latching relay technology keeps the selected path closed without continuous power, so data continues to pass through even if the supply is cut. Layer 1 switching makes the module independent of data rates, protocols, formats or signal levels, giving consistent behaviour during long-term deployment. A keyed front-panel switch can disable manual toggle control to prevent accidental changes.

Replaces manual patching for serial failover

This card removes the need to physically repatch DB25 cables when shifting between primary and backup serial routes. The jump is worth it when uptime matters and power-loss transparency is required for RS-232 links. It does not serve installers who need non-latching fallback to a third port, fiber or CAT6 switching, or switching for interfaces other than DB25/RS-232.
