The Axis P1388-LE captures 3840 x 2160 video at 50 or 60 frames per second using a 1/1.8 in sensor rated at 8 MP. Its varifocal 3.9-10 mm F1.5 lens is IR corrected for consistent focus across lighting conditions. The unit operates from -40 °C to 60 °C and carries NEMA 4X, IP66 and IP67 ratings for harsh environments. Built-in Axis Edge Vault provides hardware-based cybersecurity and the platform supports AI analytics on the edge.

Robust housing and versatile mounting

Weighing 9.60 lb, the camera is built for impact resistance and long-term outdoor deployment. The box form factor accepts standard C/CS-mount accessories, allowing integrators to swap lenses or add housings without rewiring. PoE power simplifies cabling to a single Ethernet run, while the wide temperature range means no heater or fan accessories are required in most climates. The rugged enclosure protects the sensor and electronics from dust, water jets and temporary immersion.

Upgrade path from fixed-lens 1080p units

Installations moving from 2 MP fixed-focal cameras gain 4K resolution, variable field of view and on-board analytics in one device. The jump is worth it when forensic detail, license-plate capture or AI-driven alerts are needed across changing scenes. Sites that only need a static overview at lower resolution will not use the varifocal range or analytics and can stay with simpler hardware.
