The Avocent SC440-001 is a 4-port DVI and USB KVM switch validated to NIAP Common Criteria EAL4+. It enables a single operator to control four separate computers from one console while maintaining strict data separation between connected systems. US-designed firmware restricts active USB ports to keyboards, mice and common access card readers only. Physical security includes tamper-evident tape, chassis intrusion detection and locked memory.

High-Assurance Environments

This appliance suits defence, intelligence and government agencies that require hardware-enforced isolation between networks of different classification levels. It is not intended for standard office or home use where secure channel separation and CAC-only peripheral support are not required. Buyers who need support for mass-storage devices, cameras or other USB peripherals should look at a different KVM platform. The fixed four-port layout also does not scale for installations needing more computer connections.

NIAP EAL4+ Validation

The defining specification is the NIAP Common Criteria validation to Evaluation Assurance Level 4+. This certification confirms that the switch firmware, hardware architecture and physical safeguards have been independently tested to meet stringent security functional requirements. Each of the four channels provides 60dB isolation, ensuring no signal leakage occurs when switching between computers operating at different security domains. Automatic buffer clearing further prevents residual data transfer between sessions.
