Avaya 5952GTS-PWR+ Layer 3 Switch

The Avaya 5952GTS-PWR+ is a rackmount Layer 3 switch from the 5900 series designed for managed network environments. It provides 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports for twisted-pair connections and four 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP uplinks for optical fibre links. Two expansion slots allow modular adaptation to changing infrastructure requirements. This switch serves administrators who need routing capability at the distribution layer.

Capacity and headroom

Forty-eight 1000Base-T ports handle dense access-layer connectivity for workstations, access points and IP phones. Four 10GBase-X SFP uplinks aggregate that traffic toward the core with ten-gigabit headroom. The two expansion slots reserve space for future module additions without replacing the chassis. Environments that require more than forty-eight copper ports or higher uplink density will exceed the fixed configuration.

Upgrade path

This unit replaces older Layer 2 switches that lack routing features or sufficient uplink bandwidth for modern aggregation. The jump is warranted when VLAN routing must move off a core router onto the distribution switch itself. It also suits sites migrating from single-gigabit uplinks to ten-gigabit fibre links. Networks staying purely Layer 2 or needing fewer than forty-eight ports gain no advantage from the added complexity.
