What the kit does and who needs it

This ARCTIC converter kit lets you install an M.2 module in 2230, 2242, 2260 or 2280 format into a 2.5-inch drive bay. It includes a PCIe 3.0 x4 card and an SFF-8654 cable so the drive connects through either a Slimline SAS or a SATA 22-pin interface on the mainboard. Builders upgrading compact systems or servers that lack native M.2 slots can use it to add NVME or SATA storage without changing the chassis.

Behaviour under sustained load

The card operates at PCIe 3.0 x4, so a PCIe SSD keeps its full lane bandwidth during long transfers. Thermal performance depends on the drive itself and the airflow in the 2.5-inch bay because the kit adds no active cooling. A SATA SSD runs at the native SATA link speed with no protocol translation overhead. Neither path introduces extra latency beyond the cable and connector.

What this replaces and when the jump matters

The kit replaces a direct M.2 motherboard slot when that slot is missing or already occupied. It is not for systems that only accept SAS or Slimline SAS hard drives because the card does not support those protocols. The upgrade makes sense when you have a spare 2.5-inch bay and a compatible mainboard interface but no free M.2 connector.
