The Alta Labs AP6W is a wall-mounted wireless access point built for hotels, multi-dwelling units and offices that need managed Wi-Fi without ceiling hardware. It mounts over a standard junction box and draws power through PoE, with an optional 12 V DC adapter sold separately. Cloud dashboard and mobile app give administrators real-time visibility and configuration from anywhere.

Sustained load with PoE pass-through

Under continuous client traffic the AP6W maintains dual-band throughput using 4-stream MU-MIMO and OFDMA, delivering 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2.4 Gbps on 5 GHz. The integrated PoE+ pass-through port powers downstream devices such as VoIP phones without extra cabling, so the switch budget must cover both the AP and any attached endpoint. IP54 rating protects the internals from dust and splashes in hallway or lobby deployments.

Wi-Fi 6 capacity limits

The 802.11ax radio tops out at a combined 2400 Mbps link rate, so aggregate client throughput will sit below that figure once overhead, contention and mixed client capabilities are factored in. AltaPass allows multiple passwords tied to distinct VLANs and rate limits on a single SSID, but each VLAN still shares the same airtime. Deep-packet inspection for content filtering adds processing latency that grows with rule complexity and connection count.
