3M Dual Lock Type 400 is a black reclosable fastener with mushroom-shaped stems on a polypropylene carrier coated with general-purpose acrylic adhesive. It provides 5X greater closure strength than hook-and-loop fasteners and mates with Type 170, 250 or 400 counterparts for adjustable holding power. Designed for metals, glass and medium-to-high surface energy plastics and paint, it replaces screws, clips, rivets, snaps and bolts where access or repositioning is needed. Used for doors, access panels, signs, cushions and display components.

Engaged thickness and closure life under load

When engaged the fastener measures 0.23 inches thick and is rated for 1000 closure cycles. The 400 stems per square inch interlock to maintain consistent shear and tensile performance through repeated opening and closing. Acrylic adhesive bonds to the substrate and resists creep during sustained loading, so panels and fixtures stay aligned over time. Stem density determines combined strength, allowing the engineer to tune the joint by pairing with Type 170, 250 or another Type 400 strip.
