This adapter cable connects a Sony DCR-TRV75E DV camera directly to a USB port using a 4-pin IEEE 1394 male connector on one end and a USB male connector on the other. It is built specifically for that single camera model and will not function with other 1394 or USB devices. The 1.5m length provides a practical tether for capture sessions.

IEEE 1394 Speed Ceiling

The cord supports the legacy IEEE 1394 transfer rates of 100, 200 and 400 Mbits per second, which defines the maximum throughput available for DV footage offload. Because the adapter bridges two different bus architectures, actual sustained speed depends on the host controller and driver stack rather than the cable alone. No higher signalling rates are supported by this interface.

Plug-and-Play with Caveats

Installation is straightforward: connect the 4-pin end to the camera iLink port and the USB end to the computer; no external power is required. The moulded strain relief protects the junction from cable stress during use. The common failure point is driver recognition — many modern operating systems no longer include native DV-over-USB support, so the camera may not appear without legacy software or a dedicated capture application.
