Replacement Upper Thermostat
The Value Brand upper thermostat is a direct replacement component for electric water heaters that use a two-element non-simultaneous configuration. It suits homeowners or maintenance technicians servicing compatible Rheem units and restores temperature control when the original part fails.
Two-Element Non-Simultaneous Operation
This thermostat manages the upper heating element in a dual-element system where only one element operates at a time. It provides reliable regulation for standard residential demand and cycles the upper element off once the set temperature is reached before the lower element engages.
Compatibility and Installation Limits
The part fits a specific list of Rheem models including 1PZ87, 3CFG1 through 3CFG5, 3WA66 through 3WA78, and 6UT series units 6UT02, 6UT04, 6UT05, 6UT06, 6UT09, and 6UT10. It is not intended for simultaneous-operation tanks, single-element heaters, or gas-fired appliances.

Questions about this item
Will this RHEEM SP11698 upper thermostat fit the 3WA66 or 6UT05 water heater models I already have?
Yes, the thermostat is listed for use with both the 3WA66 and 6UT05 models, along with the other 3WA and 6UT series numbers shown in the compatibility list.
How can I verify the thermostat is operating correctly once installed?
After wiring, the unit should cycle the upper element on and off to maintain the set temperature; a multimeter check for continuity across the terminals at room temperature confirms the switch is functional.
Does the box include wiring connectors or a mounting bracket, or must I buy those separately?
The thermostat comes as the replacement unit only; wire nuts, mounting screws and any bracket needed for your specific tank are not included and must be sourced separately.
